Interstate 66 - 26.3 Miles
Interstate 66 was extended from Washington D.C. east to meet Dover, DE along U.S. 50 and then on it's own alignment. Once it began its march through Delaware officials from both New Jersey and Delaware began working on plans to build a bridge to cross the Delaware Bay. It would be at least seven miles long and connect the two states better since they only had the Delaware Memorial Bridge, and the Cape May Ferry to support traffic. There was indeed a missing link. This new bridge would be called the Thomas West Bridge, named after the governor of Virginia who led the people of the Jamestown settlement to stay in America and not return to England despite harsh conditions.

.................................................
Here is where Interstate 66 ends it's nearly transcontinental journey. Originally it was intended to end in city of Dover, but both Delaware and New Jersey officials agreed that a new crossing would benefit both their economic interests. Rather then give it a new number, it was decided to just carry the Interstate 66 designation over the bridge and into New Jersey. Providing quick access between Dover and Vineland, the bridge also facilitated a new easy access to the nation's capital. Both Route 100 and Interstate 66 shared Exit 10 at the same location, making it easy for signage. |

Exit 10
Here a two lane ramp would split off from Route 100 as Interstate 66 would begin it's long journey. There would only be one other exit before it left New Jersey and crossed the Thomas West Bridge into Delaware. |
This is what you'd see approaching Interstate 66 on the NJ side off Route 100

Exit 16 (In Delaware)
Here Interstate 99 and Interstate 66 meet in a dislexic nightmare. However, the same situation has occurred before, with Interstate 69 & 96 in Michigan. Except these two don't multiplex like the latter do. The bulk of traffic would be heading from the west to Delaware's beaches, thus the ramps with the largest capacity would be E-S and N-W. A larger leaf ramp would be provided for bridge-bound traffic. |
This would be in Delaware... but figured I'd show it anyways...
